Welcome to my website. I am an economist based in Dhaka, and this is where I keep my published work, the columns I write for the newspapers, and the commissioned projects I have worked on and am working on now.

Most of my current research is about Bangladesh: questions of regional disparity, development questions approached through large micro datasets such as the HIES and the Labour Force Survey, the building of large macroeconometric and computable general equilibrium models, and the country's persistent energy crisis. I use satellite and administrative data a good deal, largely because the official numbers do not always reach far enough. I also take on commissioned work for research institutes, development banks and public bodies, usually where a model has to be built or a measurement problem sorted out.
